European Institutions and Citizens: Adapting the EU to the Digitalisation Challenges (EICAEUD)

Jean Monnet Chairs are an integral part of the Jean Monnet Actions which are integrated in the Erasmus+ programme.

Its general aims are to foster teaching and learning, to encourage research and to promote debates on various topics related to the European Union. Specifically, Jean Monnet Chairs are designed, on the one hand, to deepen the teaching of EU studies for academics and, on the other hand, to offer qualified teaching on EU topics of relevance to the labour market.

The Chair European Institutions and Citizens: Adapting the European Union to the Challenges of Digitalisation (EICAEUD) is in this context and shares the criteria inspiring the Jean Monnet Actions.

OBJECTIVES

This Jean Monnet Action is based on the conception of the European Union as an institutional organisation or system that effectively impacts on various fields (it is not conceived as an abstract idea or future project). Its initiatives and public policies increasingly affect many different aspects of our lives as citizens or as economic or social actors.

The Jean Monnet Chairs offer open educational resources and integrate open education activities, improving the flexibility and accessibility of teaching.

activities

This Chair presents, on the one hand, teaching and research activities, which aim to promote academic and research excellence in the field of EU studies.

In particular, the research activity of the Chair should allow the acquisition of knowledge and ideas that can be used in political activity (at European, state, regional or local level). Thanks to the organisation of events (and the production of materials), it will also seek to promote dialogue and interaction between the academic sphere and civil society (economic, social and political actors at different levels, public managers, members of the educational community at different levels and the media), as well as the transfer of knowledge applicable to the social and economic sphere. In short, the actions and events aim to go beyond academic, specialised and expert boundaries, reaching a wide audience and disseminating knowledge about the EU to society at large.
